My goal with this project was to outline the necessity of climate action by developing a poster campaign that could be placed around city centres, called Half isn’t Enough”.
I based my campaign around Greta Thunberg’s famous speech given at the UN, specifically this quote:
“The popular idea of cutting our emissions in half in 10 years only gives us a 50% chance of staying below 1.5 degrees (Celsius) and the risk of setting off irreversible chain reactions beyond human control.
Fifty percent may be acceptable to you. But those numbers do not include tipping points, most feedback loops, additional warming hidden by toxic air pollution or the aspects of equity and climate justice.”
I decided to visually depict the idea of half not being enough, by creating lino prints of each word cut in half and placed vertically on posters. The large gaps on the posters depict how big of a problem we are ignoring, and the individual lino prints highlight how each word can’t function when cut in half.
